Punk Piano

The Story of how one junky piano got another shot at life...
One day, we heard of a piano sitting in a pile at the CSU surplus store so we ran to see it.
We brought our treasure to it's new home & set it up. We played it & it was horrendous. Seriously, the worst thing you've ever heard. But hey, you never know! What if it was really a great instrument & they just didn't know what they were doing by selling it for $300? We've all heard those stories. The other option we had always thought of is, demolish it & put a keyboard in it. Oh piano friends... Don't hate me. We waited until I heard from a professional piano tuner/rebuilder. "It will never be a good piano. Can't be fixed. It's junk."
So, Tim (our tech director, IT, video, creative team) & his intern Darrin, took the insides out & put a keyboard in.
Empty...

and empty...

2 days later, we're ready for paint.

Ah, and here comes Scottie...the painting begins...

oh geez, this is looking so sweet. Leave it! Or not, ok keep going....

Then one of my requests....to paint under the lid checker board...man, I'm lovin this.

The cherry blossoms are wrapping around & become butterflies. So rad.

Here comes the light post...

Here's one of my favorite parts of this art piece...Jesus' face on the lid...

...Can you see it?

Tim was the brain child behind how to get this to really work. Here's his explanation of the equipment, software etc...The keyboard is a KORG SP-250. The only full weighted 88 keyboard that would fit in the space. The keyboard will run piano and pads through Apple Studio Logic and Mainstage.
